Terms of Service

Last updated: October 18, 2026

These terms, which the app also calls our Terms of Use, are the simple ground rules for using Purse. By using the app you agree to them.

01Using Purse

Purse is a personal tool for tracking income and spending. You may use it for your own personal, lawful purposes. Please do not misuse the service, try to access other people's data, or interfere with how it works.

02Your account

You sign in with your email address and a one-time code, with your Google account, or on iPhone with your Apple Account. You can also link a Google account in Settings to sign in either way. You are responsible for keeping access to your email, Google and Apple accounts secure and for activity under your account. You can delete your account at any time from your profile in the app, as described in our Privacy Policy.

03Device permissions

Some features need a permission from your phone: the microphone and speech recognition for voice entry, notifications and exact alarms for reminders, and, on Android, SMS for bank SMS import. Each is optional and you can change it at any time in Settings > Permissions or your phone's settings, but a feature will not work without the permission it needs. What each permission is used for is explained in our Privacy Policy.

Only turn on bank SMS import on a phone and number that are yours, for messages about your own accounts.

04AI-assisted entries

Voice entry sends the text of what you say to a third-party AI service, once you allow it, to suggest a draft. Drafts can be wrong, so always check the amount, type, category and date before saving. You are responsible for the records you confirm.

Bank SMS import (Purse Pro, on Android and on iPhone with iOS 17 or later) uses the same AI service to save transactions from your bank's messages automatically, once you turn it on. It can miss a message or read one wrongly, so review imported entries and edit, undo or delete any that are wrong.

On iPhone it depends on an automation you create in Apple's Shortcuts app. iOS can pause or change that automation, for example after a system update or in Low Power Mode, so check from time to time that messages are still arriving.

05Free plan, Purse Pro and payments

Purse is free to use within the limits of the Free plan. Purse Pro is an optional monthly subscription, $4.99 USD a month (or the equivalent price shown in your App Store or Google Play currency), that removes those limits and unlocks extra features. The current limits of each plan are shown in the app and on our pricing section; we may adjust them over time.

  • Price: the price you pay is the one shown in the app and on the store's purchase screen before you confirm, including any taxes the store applies.
  • Payment: it is charged to your App Store or Google Play account when you confirm the purchase. Apple or Google takes the payment; we never receive your card details.
  • Renewal: the subscription renews automatically each month, at the price then in effect, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
  • Cancelling: manage or cancel it in your App Store or Google Play account settings, or from Manage subscription in the app. After cancelling you keep Pro until the end of the paid period. Deleting the app or your Purse account does not cancel a subscription.
  • Refunds: these are handled by Apple or Google under their policies; we cannot issue refunds ourselves, and a part-used period is not refunded. Our Refund Policy explains how to ask the store for one.
  • Your account: Pro belongs to the Purse account you were signed in to when you bought it. If you reinstall or change phone, sign in to that account and use Restore purchases.
  • Pending and failed payments: if the store is still confirming a payment (for example, Ask to Buy), Pro unlocks once it is approved. If a renewal payment fails, the store may give you a short grace period to fix it; after that the subscription ends.
  • Price changes: if the price of Pro changes, the store will tell you in advance and you can cancel before the new price applies.
  • Returning to Free: you keep, edit and delete everything you created; only adding beyond the Free limits is blocked, and Pro-only features such as bank SMS import switch off.

What we receive about your subscription is explained in our Privacy Policy.

06Not financial advice

Totals, charts, pocket progress, card limits, account balances and fixed deposit interest are worked out from what you enter and are for your information only. How we handle that data is explained in our Privacy Policy. Purse does not connect to your bank (bank SMS import only reads the messages your bank sends to your phone), so they may differ from your bank's figures. Purse does not provide financial, tax or investment advice, and it does not convert between currencies.

07Availability and changes

We work to keep Purse reliable, but we cannot promise it will always be available or error-free, and it may be briefly unavailable during maintenance. Reminders depend on your phone's notification settings and may arrive late or not at all, so do not rely on them alone for payments that matter.

To keep Purse secure and working, we may sometimes require you to update the app before you can continue using it.

To keep Purse working well and decide what to improve, the app counts how its features are used, never what is in your records, as explained under Usage analytics in our Privacy Policy.

We may change or discontinue features, and we may update these terms. Continued use after an update means you accept the new terms.

08Liability

Purse is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for losses that result from using the app or from errors in the data it shows. Keep your own records for anything important.
